“What do I wear to work?” Okay, now this is a serious concern!
You’re done with your studies and you’re all fired up to be grown up and responsible and ready to crush it at your first job.
But…the question about the “office wardrobe” haunts everybody. You need to look mature and formal, but at the same time want to be comfortable and not overdo it. It can get pretty confusing. You don’t know if your outfits will “match” with the dress code at your workplace and buying new work clothes can go out of hand in terms of figuring out the proper style plus conduct, and well, the money part can be tough on you too. It’s all a big mess in your head. Right?
Here’s helping you calm the madness down a little with a few tips you should keep in mind while thinking about your work wardrobe –
- See what you can reuse from your wardrobe
You would definitely have some clothes in your wardrobe that you can reuse for office wear. Shirts and pants that can be counted as formal wear or something that you can mix and match which would pull off the formal look. A lot of offices also allow jeans to work, and this could be perfect for you!
- Comfort is important
Yes, the formal look is necessary, but you also need to be comfortable in what you wear. You’d be in those clothes for about 8 hours a day and if you are not comfortable then it can affect your work too.
- Don’t stress over having to wear the same pair of pants 2-3 times a week
It’s absolutely okay to wear the same pair of pants around 2-3 times in the same week. Nobody will think less of you or judge you. Just switch the shirts and you’re good to go! You are not expected to have a fresh pair of pants for each day of the week.
- Have at least one good suit
You should have at least one good formal suit or a dress that you can have available for the important office events or parties or for your interviews. Don’t go too high-end but a good branded formal wear is a must. You can slowly invest in more of these as you go, with the saved up money from your pay checks, but to start off, one of such clothes is important.
- Go all out on shoes
Shoes are the most important part of your outfit. Your shoes are usually the first thing people notice about you and they need to look nice. But at the same time, they also need to be comfortable and subtle. So be mindful of that.
Now, go kill that office look!
