Why cost yourself a visit to the doctor and gulp in tablets when you can feel better by being in the comfort of your home?

Here are some wonderful homemade remedies that you may try.

  1. Steam

This works like magic. It is a simple technique to help clear up your congestion. All you need to do is boil some water on the stove (if you don’t have an electric steam inhaler) and use a blanket to cover your head and the pot so that the steam doesn’t vaporize into the air. Now close your eyes and breathe in the steam. Do this for about 15-20 minutes, twice a day and you will feel the relief before you know it! You could even apply some Vicks Vapor Rub around your nostrils and on your throat to maximize the steam’s effect.

  1. Rest

People with a cold must always learn that resting is a vital part of the healing process. Doing regular activities with a bad cold is not a good idea, it can aggravate the cold. You must get to bed and take an ample amount of rest by sleeping. Sleeping really helps your body fight against the cold better.

  1. Honey Lemon Tea

Honey lemon tea is one of the easiest ways to cure your cold. Make yourself some hot honey lemon tea and drink up to ease your throat. The lemon, being rich in Vitamin C, helps build your immune system against the cold and provides quick relief.

  1. Gargle

Saltwater gargle is another great way to get relief from that cough you’ve been carrying around for a while. Take a glass of warm water and add a teaspoon of salt into it. Mix it well and gargle. Do this twice a day. Gargling helps soothe your throat from itchiness, cough, soreness, etc.

  1. Oregano oil

Put two drops of oregano oil in your mouth and let the oil slowly reach down to your throat. Oregano oil has the power to kill germs and hence improving immunity system and beating that cough.

  1. Hot Toddy

Well this for people who can drink a bit of alcohol. A hot toddy is a mixture of a spirit (usually whisky), hot water, and honey. Additional ingredients such as cloves, a lemon slice or cinnamon (in stick or ground form) are often also added. The drink can also be made with tea instead of water.

Try these and trust me, you will find a lot of relief instantly! I sure did. (Just recovered from a bad cold. Steam, rest and lemon honey tea did the trick!)
