2045 Initiative: Futurism to the Next Level

We all are mortals with a limited life span but most of us wish to be immortals. The human life span is not under control of any circumstances, death is certain whether by way of aging, disease or accident.

There is an non-profit organisation called “2045 Initiative” founded in February 2011 by Russian entrepreneur Dmitry Itskov, having main object, as stated their website, is “to create technologies enabling the transfer of an individual’s personality to a more advanced non-biological carrier, and extending life, including to the point of immortality. We devote particular attention to enabling the fullest possible dialogue between the world’s major spiritual traditions, science and society”.

The 2045 Initiative roadmap for developing cybernetic immortality is shown in the image below.

One of the featured life extension projects is to design an artificial humanoid body (called an “avatar”) and an advanced brain computer interface system. On the biological side, a life support system will be developed for hosting a human brain inside the avatar and maintaining it alive and functional. A later phase of the project will research into the creation of an artificial brain into which the original individual consciousness may be transferred. [wikipedia].

The project  received mixed reactions from  people, Professor George M. Church has complained that “there’s a lot of dots that aren’t connected in (Itskov’s) plans” and on the other hand the project has got support from the Dalai Lama.

Well, we need to wait at least till 2020 to see whether first dot completes it target or not. 2045 seems to be exciting year.

Here is a short video of the planned project.
