Winter has always been a super hard season for me when it comes to skin. Even thinking about dry skin makes me wanna cry. It gets so difficult to maintain soft and glowing skin; and cracked, chapped and dry skin is what I am left with even after lathering up countless cold creams, lotions and moisturizers. So many products tried and tested but they don’t really work as I would like them to.

I never really gave homemade remedies a chance before, thinking that if specialized products for dry skin treatment didn’t work then home remedies don’t really stand a chance. But I was wrong! There are some of these easy homemade stuff that really help with the dry skin situation and can be lifesavers when winter comes. I have my mother to thank for persuading me to try them.

Here are a few of these remedies. Try them and you will not regret giving them a chance! Trust me, they work like magic.

  1. Coconut oil

Using coconut oil as a moisturiser during winters is a very good choice. It really helps in restoring the dry and chapped skin into soft, glowing skin. It is also really good for your hair! Apply coconut oil to your hair and massage your scalp well. Keep it on for about an hour and wash your hair with a mild shampoo. The oil brings a shine to your hair and keeps it healthy.

  1. Apply lotion after a warm shower

When showering, make sure the water is not very hot. Hot baths tend to make the skin even more dry. Instead, use warm water to shower, and after you are done, don’t dry yourself off with a towel. Use a lotion (cocoa butter or shea butter) to moisturise your body. The drop droplets on your body from the shower help in adding to the moisture!

  1. Drink a lot of water

This is something that is very effective, but we all tend to drink very little water during the cold season. Drinking more water will help the body stay hydrated and retain the moisture of your skin. Even eating foods that have a high-water content is very good for the skin and its glow.

  1. Honey Banana Face Mask

A simple DIY face mask for your “Winter Is Coming” phase. This face mask is great when it comes to battling dry and flaky skin. It helps your skin stay hydrated, adding moisture and shine to your face. Now go, get that glow!
