Who wouldn’t want to take their dog to work if your workplace is all smiles for those cute fluffy things giving the hoomans company! These doggos not only create a great environment at the workplace but also contribute majorly to the happiness of the whole office. The vibe that they carry around with them, those joyful games they love to play with you, and that playful attitude is just so contagious.
At the same time, bringing your dog to work can also be very distracting if your dog is not trained well. They will create chaos and it would be more like a headache and a reason for resentment, instead of the happy doses.
Lucky for you, we have a few tips you can use to train your doggo to help them be safe for work –
- Make sure that basics are covered
You gotta start with the basics, because foundation is everything. Practice “sit” and “wait” with your doggo till they get it right every time, with everything – especially food. They need to understand the importance of these instructions and follow them each time you ask them to. Once this is achieved, they are those super well behaved doggos who are calm and controlled in all kinds of environments, without being frantic and reckless.
- Teach them that they have an allocated spot
Your dog needs to be able to settle down at one place when you take them to work. They cannot be hanging around the whole office and disturb others while they are trying to focus on work. This is why you need to be able to teach your dog that they have an allocated spot when you take them to work. This could be a rug or a dog home that your dog uses at home, which can be easily carried to work. You need to practice with your dog at home, teaching them to sit and wait in the “good place”, even when they see you walking away. Mastering this will help you be comfortable in taking your pup to work.
- Teach them how to socialize
You definitely have to teach your doggo how to socialize. There are various socializing training plans that you can find online. Getting your dog used to new people and new environments will be very helpful as they will accept these elements in a safe and non-threatening way. They will remain positive around your folks at work and other places too as you travel with your doggo and create beautiful memories as you go.
