Usually insects are found in the place where there is vegetation and environment is humid. Researchers from North Dakota State University and the Smithsonian Institute during their exploration in Antarctica discovered fossils of rare beetle on Beardmore Glacier near the Transantarctic Mountains. It is believed to be first ground beetle ever found.

The discovered beetle has been named “Ball’s Antarctic Tundra Beetle”. It is estimated that the beetle lived in this place, when it was warmer around 14 – 20 million year ago.
