The reason why this is called  “Noob hack end to end guide to start a blog”, is because it starts with very basic questions and answers. This post is divided into two parts for those who not only  want to start a blog and but also make money online. We have tried to cover the very basics of starting a blog which includes the writing, technology, promotion and making money from your blogs.

PART TWO : PROMOTION AND MAKE MONEY

 START

#1 The first and foremost thing is to understand why you want to start a blog. Is it for your pleasure, to share knowledge or to make money or just for fun?  If you mix all these then your blog can be successful.  However,  there is no hard and fast rule to make your blog successful.  All you need to do is choose your own area of interest.

#2 You are reading point number two, that means you really want to start your blog. So now we dive into some technical stuff.
There are many free blog platforms such as blogger, wix, tumblr, wordpress.org free version etc, so you can try your hand on these but we would suggest that if possible go for the professional look for your blog, which means buying your own domain name and hosting your blog on your own purchased server. You may think, why to go for purchased one when you can get a blog for free. The answer lies in the branding of your blog and freedom to add features and things you want to do with the blog. Would you rather prefer www.yourblog.com or www.yourblog.freeblogsite.com ? You should be smart enough to understand the difference between the two.

TECHNICAL

#1  Ok so now, you have decided to purchase a domain name right? But if you are going for one of the free blog platforms, you may skip to Part Two of this Post.

The best prices to buy a domain are available on Godaddy but there are a lot of other options. Buying a domain name is very simple. Just go to their site and type the domain name you want and check its availability, since there cannot be two domain names with same name and if it available then just purchase it. Minimum period of having your own domain name is for one year and maximum is ten years and after that you need to renew it by paying some amount for retaining the domain name.

#2  Your domain name is ready now. But the domain name is just the name of your blog and you need space to store and run your files which brings us to the next point. This is called hosting your website/ blog. In this post we are covering linux hosting plans only. Mostly you will see four options to buy from hosting company (most popular being hostgator and bluehost).

  • Shared Hosting : Site runs at moderate speed/ resources shared/ cheap.
  • Cloud Hosting: This is a new category available these days especially on hostgator and bluehost. Site runs at ok speed/ scale up option are available/ slightly costly than shared hosting.
  • VPS Hosting: Site runs at good speed/ you are in control of your server / expensive compared to above two options. VPS stands for Virtual Private Server.
  • Dedicated Hosting: you are on the Highways/ site superfast/ very expensive.

What we recommend to you when you are just starting , is that try your hands on shared hosting or cloud hosting options, because they are easy to setup, pocket friendly and you can have control over your website. While purchasing the hosting services you can connect your domain with the hosting provider. The guided steps for connecting your domain with the hosting provider are available with whichever service provider you choose, most importantly you need to update the Nameserver to connect the domain with your hosting provider.

But remember, Shared hosting is only for starter and less traffic. If you gain visitors, then we strongly suggest that you go for VPS from your provider or try Cloud Computing Services such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, DigitalOcean or the most popular Amazon Web Services (AWS).

#3 Now that your Domain and Webhosting services are connected, and you have got control of your cpanel (where you have options to manage your hosting), the next question in your mind would be where is my blogging platform. We assume you must have done some research already on the platforms available, popular being WordPress, Joomla and Drupal.
We suggest that you go with wordpress (yes you can run WordPress on your own hosting) for now if you don’t want to burn your head. WordPress is easy to understand and fast setup. Drupal is also a very good platform but it’s mostly for developers and requires lot of learning. Anyways we are just starting up so wordpress is just fine and moreover if you decide to change the platform, migration of data is one of the possibilities.

#4  How to install wordpress ? if you have bought services from hostgator.in or bluehost.in, then they have automated installing process. Just choose to install wordpress from cpanel via quick install or  Softaculous  and you are ready to go. We are not going to cover how to make your site beautiful or attractive or change wordpress site in this post. May be we will write another special post on this.

#5 Hmm…now that you have to have your blog up and running, so what are you waiting for ? Go and write your first blog. And after a few days of continuous writing you would be having a few posts, some followers and you must be thinking  that it would be great to make money from my blog.

Lets Go to Part Two of the Guide >>
